Smit & Zoon achieves Ecovadis SILVER CSR Rating

By Egbert Dikkers

We are proud to announce that Smit & Zoon has received 62 points in the Ecovadis Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) rating, earning a SILVER award. With a score higher than 90% of all of the EcoVadis assessed companies, we have once again proven to belong to the absolute top in sustainability-related activities.

The new score is 9 points higher than in 2015, the previous time Ecovadis assessed Smit & Zoon.

The EcoVadis rating methodology is to measure the quality of a company’s CSR management system – through its policies, actions, and results. The EcoVadis assessment focuses on 21 issues, which are grouped into 4 themes: Environment, Labor Practices & Human Rights, Fair Business Practices (ethics), and Sustainable Procurement.

According to Ecovadis, Smit & Zoon has shown the biggest improvements in the fields of Environment and Ethics. The Ecovadis SILVER Award is a confirmation of the value of our strategy. To be named one of the leading companies towards a more sustainable supply chain by a respected organisation like Ecovadis is a great reward for our effort. We see it as the result of our relentless drive to make the leather value chain sustainable and responsible, through a company-wide focus on sustainability, operational excellence and outstanding labor practices.

The Ecovadis ratings are based upon international CSR standards such as the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)’s standards, the ISO 26000 standard, the CERES Roadmap, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, also known as the Ruggie Framework.
