At Codyeco – in line with the sustainability policy of Smit & Zoon – we have undertaken the commitment to eliminate all ingredients belonging to the chemical family of PFC (perfluorocarbons) from our products portfolio within 2020.

PFC ingredients have been used in leather technology since many times to impart water repellency properties. In organic chemistry the bonding force between Carbon and Fluorine is the strongest we can find, that is why PFC are so persistent and bio-accumulative into the environment. Additionally, PFC have also been identified as substances hepatotoxic, toxic for reproduction and carcinogenic.

Many issues concerning chemical replacement, especially when it comes to high performance products, are extremely complex and require a team of experts with diversified skills. After many months of intensive research, we have been able to succeed to produce a water-based product. With proud we introduce AGUASTOP W 200.

Water repellent leather articles with no negative impact on the environment

This improved, water-based product gives protection against water and anti-soiling in a more sustainable way.
All application trials conducted in our laboratories, demonstrated that AGUASTOP W 200 gives high performance water repellency results which are in line with the current PFC technology, but with one very important difference and that is that AGUASTOP W 200 has no negative impact on the environment.
