Tell us about your work environment. What does it look like? And what are your responsibilities at Royal Smit & Zoon?

I am working at R&D Wet-End in the Netherlands, where I am responsible as team leader for the development of new fatliquor products. Next to it we are responsible for maintenance and update the current fatliquor product portfolio to meet the requirements set by our customers or regulations in agreement with product management. We are also supporting operations (purchase and production) to get our products produced at the required quality as agreed with our customers.

Royal Smit & Zoon is driven by a purpose. To make the leather value chain environmentally & socially sustainable. What is your purpose? What gives you energy in your job?

I like to work with dedicated and enthusiastic people/teams and guide/coach the R&D wet end team together with Michiel & Karen. Collaboration with all departments is in my eyes the only way to reach our goal “To make the leather value chain environmentally & socially sustainable”.  It gives me energy when we achieve results as team with hard work, positive attitude, making use of each other strengths and of course with fun.

At Royal Smit & Zoon, we love leather. What is your favorite leather item?

I have few pairs of leather shoes for various occasions. My Meindl hiking boots are one of my favorites. Since 1982 I have always bought Meindl’s as they are good quality and nice hiking boots. The hiking boots on the picture are I guess my 8th pair of Meindl hiking boots these were just bought new for my coming summer holiday in Switzerland. I know already that I will have very nice comfortable hikes with them, and thanks to the waterproof fatliquors I keep my feet dry. And fun fact: did you know that Meindl is a family-owned company founded in 1683 led by the eleventh generation of the Meindl family shoemakers?

Who are you going to pass the baton to?
