Smit & Zoon makes a difference @ 35th India International Leather fair: Focuses on Upcycling for the leather Industry

The 35th India International Leather fair took place in Chennai from 31 Jan – 3 Feb 2020.

Smit & Zoon jointly with our authorised partners Leer Group participated promoting both SMIT & CODYECO brands and how these brands can make a difference for our customers and for the world around us. The leathers on display were developed focusing on upcycling all from lower selections, slow moving leathers from Indian origin procured from domestic tanneries.

Marc Smit, 7th generation owner of Smit & Zoon said, “Indian customers are conscious of the importance of upgrading and expect Smit Group to deliver on this. With the start of the new decade in this fair we highlight a way of living in harmony with everyone around us. All the leathers were made using the principles of Zero waste and are being displayed in a stand also focusing on these aspects. Congratulations to our teams in India, Netherlands and Italy in making this happen – We have made a difference, and this has been appreciated by our customers”

Catering to the customers’ demands the main focus of articles on display were Shoe, leather goods and furniture upholstery some interesting aspects where the floor of the stand that was made from Indian buffalo leather which was in very good condition after 3 days of heavy use and will be reused again.

All the leathers were designed jointly by our teams in India, Italy and Netherlands and made in our Future labs in India. The leathers were made into articles by local designers and displayed to share ideas with our customers on their possible end use.
