Recycled drums at Smit & zoon

From December onwards, Smit & zoon will start using recycled polyethylene drums.
An important next step in taking our CSR approach with regard to packaging materials one step further. Our supplier for polyethylene drums collects them and cleans and checks the drums thoroughly. Depending on the quality, the packaging is either reconditioned or collected for recycling.

Our supplier for polyethylene drums collects them and cleans and checks the drums thoroughly. Depending on the quality, the packaging is either reconditioned or collected for recycling. The drums are recycled by regrinding them, resulting in post-consumer resin (PCR). The mixture of PCR and virgin polyethylene ensures a high-quality product while at the same time extending the life cycle of our packaging materials.

The recycled polyethylene drums are very similar to our standard drum, but contain max. 65% of PCR granulate, which is equal to a total volume of 370.000 kg granulate per year or the annual carbon emission of 323 Dutch citizens. The drum looks similar and tests prove they meet our quality standards.
